SynBioClub (formally known as EnviroSynBio) was co-led by Kathleen Hon and Yoshan Sasiharan.

This club was founded in 2022 as a way to establish a community of synthetic biology students at Western University.

Prior to 2022, Western’s international Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Team existed, but the team lacked funding and resources to compete in the annual iGEM meetings. Determined to maintain SynBio presence on campus, SynBioClub held wet lab workshops to encourage anyone outside of biology to gain hands on lab experience working on a synbio project, professor meet and greets (Dr. Michael Pyne pictured), and social gatherings to connect STEM students across all disciplines to meet. SynBioClub has now grown to over 600 general members and has completed three executive team cycles.
